“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” ~~Romans 8:28

This is a re-post from an old blog.  This happened several years ago.  However, this is still our stand-by treatment plan, that we have used more than once.   🙂

Unfortunately, illness does not seem to care about our hectic schedule, and decided to slip right on in and visit.  Our loss, will hopefully be your gain, as I will attempt to detail how we treated this illness.  This is a long post in a diary type format, with daily treatments and amounts listed for each day. 🙂
The story of this illness begins  on September 24th, 2011 during a chilly Saturday night football game….
K4, my youngest child, age 5,  played his football game, and sat through a couple of more little league games before finally giving in and falling asleep on Dad’s lap.
He had been a little “snotty & tired” for a couple of days, but we had attributed it to ragweed and golden rod being in bloom. However, that night, as he lay sleeping on Dad’s lap, he began to cough, sputter, snot and wheeze.  Moms, you know the cough, the one all mothers dread, with it’s deep, croupy, wheezing, congested sound. Yep, that cough. I leaned over, placed my lips on his forehead and knew immediately that the fight was on.  There were many prayers to be said, a fever to be broken, a cough to be subdued, a war to be waged, and the clock was ticking.
It was also my “AH-HA” moment, the moment, I remembered my “preventatives”, those handy little herbs, and juices I preach so hard to others.  Yes, it was then that I realized, I had failed to start our yearly preventatives with the start of school.  DOI!! ***insert exasperated mom slapping forehead here*** Time had simply escaped me, sliding right on by with the busyness of life, and here it was, cold season, school season, and my youngest, the one with so little prior exposure, has  been **gasp** exposed, unprotected to all those “school germs” eeeks!!!! Oh how could I be so forgetful.

Now that you know when, where and how this story begins…
Part 2 of this blog shall detail how the illness progressed, how we initially treated it, what the doctor diagnosed K4 as having, what he advised, why we even went in the first place, and what we actually did.  🙂
Hopefully K4’s unfortunate mishap, due to mom’s inability to keep up, shall now serve as a learning experience for you.  Good can be found in all misfortune if we only take the time to seek it.

Thanks for reading.

“He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth:”
 ~Psalms 104:14

Every treatment I use, I begin with prayer and petition to Jesus.  I want everything I do, to be done in the name of Jesus Christ my Savior.   I take no credit for the success of any treatments because without the guidance of Christ and His grace, my fumbling attempts would be futile.
Please, please, please, always do everything through prayer.  Be still, hear what HE wants from you. Everyone has their own path.  Some are singers, some are missionaries, some are preachers, I am none of these.

This is my path, the path I feel Christ is leading me down, walking beside me the entire way. This is the path I feel He wants me to use as my witness.  I have been given an ability to understand and to attempt to teach. I have been given a ease of understanding of the medicinal and the herbal and I pray that by sharing my knowledge, it may be useful to those in need, who either can’t afford conventional treatment, are not near conventional treatment, or who have been failed by conventional treatment.

I have been given this  passion, I have been given skill in this area, it is the area where I feel I can show Christ like love and compassion to others. We are each on different paths, but we should all be working toward the same goal, to show Christ to others, through our passions.

May all that I do show the love of Christ, and HIS glory and grace.  ~~Amen

Items used during this illness:
Tea-Tree Oil
Garlic and garlic gel caps
D3 2000IU gel caps
Vitamin C chewable tablets 500 mg
Elderberry Concentrate

Lemon Juice
Pure Raw Local Honey
Kiser Ridge Farm Cold & Flu Tea

****Honey, Lemon and Elderberry are combined with water to make a yummy juice, that has NO added sugar (sugar feeds viruses and bacteria), is somewhat anti-bacterial, anti-viral, healing, immune boosting, soothing and a great cough suppressant.  🙂 ****
Comfrey Salve (I have posted recipe and pictures in previous blogs)
Vapor rub made with coconut oil, eucalyptus, peppermint oil, tea tree oil and menthol crystals

***NOTE***
ALL treatments include a healthy diet consisting of very little refined food.  K4 was offered fresh juices, raw fruits and veggies, homemade broths and stews with limited meats  (meats require energy to break down that could be used for healing).  Even noodle soup was made from scratch.  (will share the recipe in another blog)  Please remember that sugars and starches feed bacteria and viruses, and proteins are harder for the body to digest, requiring energy that could instead be used for healing.  I also gave a daily dose of probiotics to keep the digestive system in good working order and the toxins flushed out.

Diary of illness and treatment:
9-24-11 – Saturday Night:
Illness:

K4 develops a croupy, raspy cough, slight fever, runny nose.

Treatment:
  1. Warm tea-tree oil bath
  2. D3 2000-IU
  3. Garlic gel cap 500m
  4. Warm *Honey-Lemon-Elderberry* juice
  5. 2TBS Kiser Ridge Farm Cold & Flu Tea
  6. Bed with warm pj’s and a touch of  vapor rub on his chest.
9-25-2011 – Sunday
Illness:

Morning:
Felt a little better than Saturday night, did not cough often  during the night, Saturday night treatment to be repeated at least 4 times.  🙂
Evening & Over-night:
Feverish all night, temp up to 103.  Treated with cool rags, and sipping cold ***honey-lemon-elderberry***.  As long as a temp remains at 103  then we do not treat with any over the counter medications. (Unless accompanied by other painful symptoms)  This is our personal preference to let the fever do its job and destroy the viruses and bacteria.  After a few sips of cool juice and a cool towel to the forehead, we bundled up under the covers and monitored K4’s temps until the fever broke at approximately 4am.

WARNING::: If you have a child who is susceptible to febrile seizures or convulsions caused by elevated temps, or a family history of them,  then use your best judgement when determining how high to let the fever climb before treating with over the counter medications.  I do NOT recommend any fever being allowed to climb past 103 unless under the supervision of a medical doctor in a hospital setting.  Internal body temperatures above 103 have been known to cause severe seizures, especially in young children.  Please use extreme caution when dealing with elevated body temps.

Treatment:
  1. D3 2000IU given morning and evening
  2. Garlic 500mg tab given 4 times
  3. 2TBS  Kiser Ridge Farm Cold & Flu Tea every 3 hours
  4. Honey-Lemon-Elderberry juice as much as he wanted throughout the day.Cup by the bed at night for coughing spells.
  5. Comfrey Salve swabbed inside nostrils (nose was sore and irritated salve is healing)
  6. Warm tea-tree oil bath at bedtime, then pj’s and Vick’s.
9-26-2011 – Monday

Illness:

Woke feeling a bit more energetic after the long night, however somewhat lethargic. Cough had worsened, breath sounds were pretty clear, some upper respiratory wheezes, but nothing to be concerned about.   Took the day to sleep, eat healthy, and take supplements.
Treatment:

  1. D3 2000IU given morning and evening
  2. Garlic 500mg tab given 4 times
  3. 2TBS Kiser Ridge Farm Cold & Flu Mix every 3 hours
  4. Honey-Lemon-Elderberry juice as much as he wanted throughout the day.Cup by the bed at night for coughing spells.
  5. Warm tea-tree oil bath at bedtime, then pj’s and Vick’s.
  6. Comfrey Salve swabbed inside the nose, to treat sores in the nose, and also because the salve is full of garlic, olive oil, beeswax, and comfrey, all of which are antibacterial and antiviral. I feel that some of it will run into the respiratory tract and kill whatever bugs it comes in contact with.  It did seem to help with the sinus part of the illness.

 9-27-2011 – Tuesday

Illness:
More lethargic, slept much more than normal, all signs pointed to good oxygen exchange, but fever has lingered on from the night before.  Cough had worsened, and I could now hear rattling in the lower lobe of the left lung.  (Classic pneumonia sound) No wheezing, color was good, so I decided to continue treating at home, only more aggressively.  By evening he was much improved.

Note the dosage changes on the treatment.  I felt we needed to be more aggressive.
Treatment:
  1. D3 2000IU  three times today
  2. Garlic 500mg tab given 4 times
  3. 3TBS Kiser Ridge Farm Cold & Flu Mix every 2hours

9-28-2011 – Wednesday

Illness:
Felt much, much better today.  Lungs and cough sounded much better.  The increased dosage seems to be working.  K4 slept from 6pm on Tuesday until 9am today, only getting up when we woke him for dosage.

However, this is the 3rd day out of school, and due to school policy we felt the need to go see the doctor and get a note for missing school and an official diagnoses.   I was not happy about this, because I think the last place a child with a weakened immune system, fighting a fairly severe illness needs to be, is in a doctors office full of other germs, however off we go.

The Doctor’s Office Visit:
All I reported to the doctor was cough and cold symptoms since Saturday, with varied temps. I did not report any signs of pneumonia, or croup, I wanted his official diagnoses.  He examined K4, listened to breath sounds, noted pneumonia in the left lower lobe, and then did the blood test to confirm.  Wrote a prescription for antibiotics; Zithromax; and a note for him to stay out of school another day.  I informed him that we were treating the illness naturally and that K4 was much improved since Monday.  He said that we could continue current treatment unless K4 worsened, and then we were to start his prescribed treatment.  I agreed.   🙂

Just for the record I do NOT shun antibiotics totally, I just prefer to let the immune system do the job is was intended to do, and support the immune system naturally.

We kept the increased dosage schedule for Wednesday and Thursday.
Treatment:
  1. D3 2000IU  three times today
  2. Garlic 500mg tab given 4 times
  3. 3TBS Kiser Ridge Farm Cold & Flu Mix every 2hours

9-29-2011 – Thursday

Illness:
Much improved over the past couple of days.  No fever in almost 24 hours, lung sounds are not clear, but they are improved.   Cough seems to be subsiding as does the congestion.   Keeping with the same higher dosage and aggressive treatment for today.
Treatment:
  1. D3 2000IU  three times today
  2. Garlic 500mg tab given 4 times
  3. 3TBS Kiser Ridge Farm Cold & Flu Mix every 2hours
  4. Honey-Lemon-Elderberry juice as much as he wanted throughout the day.Cup by the bed at night for coughing spells.
  5. Warm tea-tree oil bath at bedtime, then pj’s and Vick’s.

   9-30-2011 – Friday

Illness:
K4 woke up feeling great.  No coughing all night, no fever since Wednesday,  congestion almost completely gone, and lung sounds are almost completely clear.  K4 returned to school today. He is still not 100% but he is well on his way. I did not really want to send him today, but he wanted to go and the doctor had written for him to go back today.  We will continue the treatment regimen  listed below for at least another 5 or 6 days.   As with conventional treatments, herbal treatments need to be continued for a few days past the last symptoms to make sure the illness does not return, and that you do not pick up any new illnesses.

Treatment:

This is the treatment we used from Friday through today 10-04-2011!
We will probably use it for a few more days just to be sure.

  1. D3 2000IU  Once a day
  2. Garlic 500mg tab 2 times a day
  3. 1 to 2 TBS Kiser Ridge Farm Cold & Flu Mix  3 times a day
  4. Honey-Lemon-Elderberry juice as he wants.  Warmed it is soothing and helps break up mucous.  It is also an immune booster with the elderberry.  We drink this mix a lot during cold and flu season just like others do juice.  It is much healthier than juice and contains much less sugar.
  5. Warm tea-tree oil bath at bedtime as needed if there was any congestion.

 CURRENT UPDATE for 10-04-2011

K4 is in AMAZINGLY good shape, for having been diagnosed with “walking pneumonia” less than 1 week ago.  He is back to laughing, running, playing, and school, with no noted lingering symptoms.  He will go back to football practice tonight.  He has an occasional runny nose, but it is clear and watery, so more than likely just allergy related.  Lungs are CLEAR, cough is GONE!!

PRAISE THE LORD!!
